Thanks for this, and for the photos. I'm so pleased to see the discussions on plain continue to grow. I think of each person's story as a piece to my puzzle (though a personal story in its own right), and I hope I'll be able to put the pieces together soon.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, the photos are a good illustration for the post, so you should check them out later, if possible.

I really enjoyed reading your fashion post. Didn't have the patience to wait for the photos to load, so I'll have to come back. It makes me think about why I dress the way I do. Certainly I like pretty things, but I also NEED to be comfortable. I cannot wear heels, for example. I also don't want to tug, yank or adjust my clothes. I couldn't care less whether I have an ensemble. (When I was just getting to know one of my good friends, she was SHOCKED that I didn't match my socks to the rest of my clothes and lay it all out the night before. Ha! And then there was my mom, who would dye a bra, underwear, and socks the same color and then wear them together. Double ha!) Suits, forget it! I have gotten seriously into linen a-line skirts this summer, after I bought some at St. Vinnies. I used to buy most of my clothes at thrift stores, but the one just down the street closed, making it very inconvenient. Oh well. Fun post!

Interesting. I have often thought of writing up something more general like that, but I often find myself getting mired in details when I write, so it ends up being broken up into different subjects. So, this is my fashion post, and recently there was a lifestyle post as well.

I've added you to my blogroll, by the way.

This reminds me somewhat of my <a href="http://robinmsf.blogspot.com/2007/02/robinopedia-plain.html" rel="nofollow">Plain Manifesto</a> that I wrote last year.

I find long skirts to be pretty comfortable, not touching the ground long, for most of my life's work. If I rode a bicycle more often, I'd probably wear more pants.

@KaT: See, I have similar problems "getting" most people, but in fact, that is part of why I am so interested in them, and friendly - I want to understand them.

@Dechant: Yeah, skirts are growing on me. I didn't wear them for years because I found them impractical for the lifestyle I had, so I'm having a bit of a learning curve. I'm glad I'm learning how to wear them, because one commentary I've gotten from every boyfriend I've had is that they wished I'd dress more femininely at least *occasionally*.

Lately, except for when I'm with Sky, I've been erring on the side of modesty as well. I love my skirts, but then, I've been moving in them for years and years and am well used to them.

If you are happy with who you are, inside and out, then to me, you look just fine. :-)

*YOUR (Gods, I hate when I do that).

Amusingly, for anything that /isn't/ human, I generally more willing to go look, examine, and try to understand. I love technology and its greebly bits, I enjoy nature and small critters, I love to work with my hands. It helps that I just don't "get" people.

Yeah, arms length does not describe my relationship with most of the world. I'm that person who turns around and tries to chat with you in long lines. I'm friendly to a fault, almost. Well, most of the time.

I personally think you're outfits are adorable. I've always decorated myself, more for my own amusement than anything, but I suppose it does aid others in better identifying "me" at a glance. I suppose, rather, it tells them who I want them to see me as–harder, darker, a bit mean and scary and crazy and distant. My friends easily move past all that, but it keeps people I don't know away. I prefer choosing with whom I make contact, I suppose. I feel more comfortable with the general populace at arms length.
