Good omen?

So, today as I was on my evening “constitutional” (as Marc likes to call them), I stopped to rest for a moment and fix something on my ipod, and when I looked up again to continue walking, a kingfisher was sitting there in the middle of the road, about 10 feet away, staring at me. We kind of stared at eachother for a few moments, but when I reached to take out my camera, he flew away. I got a far distant shot of him, as he later landed on a rock in the river, but it’s more for proof than anything resembling a good photo.

Anyway, if I remember correctly, kingfishers are good omens. So, hopefully that’s correct. 😉

That’s something I should write about at some point – I am a far more superstitious person than I let on, and tend to read into things a lot (not necessarily acting on them, but I do pause to think about the possible meanings behind things quite often).  It’s yet another thing I tend to be very quiet and secretive about, and since part of the purpose of this blog is to get me actually talking about my more personal, spiritual side, I feel like it should be addressed at some point.

I think your good omen was the offer of lodgings when you go to Seoul to attend Meeting. That sounded like a “way opening” to me!

Yeah. I was so pleased about that. One of the first questions they asked, after I said I was not from Seoul, was “where are you staying?”. When I replied that I was in a motel, they all, pretty much in unison, said “You should stay with us next time!”. Made me feel really a part of the group already.

I LOVE that Marc calls it a constitutional! Brian calls it that too! Though Brian’s been saying it since before dating me, it’s a nice way to further define what we mean when we want to talk “a walk”: a stroll, a constitutional, or a power-walk. (Brian does not like to join me on power-walks, so he often specifies before we go out what kind of walk he’s intending to do.)

I generally take every animal encounter as a good omen. Maybe that sounds like wishy-washy, “fluffy” pagan talk, but I find it hard to think of them as bad omens.

Except ants. Ants are evil. Also, pincher-bugs. (Okay, perhaps not evil, but I’m still highly bothered by them when I see them, especially indoors.)

Before Marc, I could never “stroll”. It was always at least a brisk “constitutional”. However, Marc likes to stroll, and he likes to hold my hand, and I am more than willing to slow my pace a bit for a guy who wants to hold my hand!

Yeah. I tend to view most animals as good signs. Insects, however, are another matter entirely.
